🔔 Shift Management Notifications for Staff
What Shift Notifications Cover
Shift Management notifications may be sent when:
A schedule is published or updated
A shift coverage request is created, accepted, or approved
You are assigned to or covering a shift
A reminder is triggered for an upcoming shift
Notifications help you monitor activity without manually reviewing the schedule.
Where to Manage Notification Settings
To customize your notifications:
Go to My Profile → Notifications
Scroll to the Shift Notifications section
Changes save automatically.
How Often You’re Notified
You can choose how frequently you receive shift-related notifications:
Daily Summary
One consolidated notification per day
Includes all shift activity (such as coverage requests and updates)
Best if you prefer a high-level overview
Immediate Notifications
Real-time alerts when shift activity happens
Best if you want to respond quickly to changes
You can switch between these at any time.
Shift Reminder Timing
For shifts you are covering, you can choose to receive reminders:
24 hours before the shift
2 hours before the shift
Or both
These reminders help prevent missed shifts.
Notification Delivery Channels
You can choose how notifications are delivered:
Email
Push notifications
SMS*
* Important SMS limitation:
SMS is only used for 2-hour and 24-hour shift reminders.
All other notifications are delivered via email or push.
You may enable one or multiple delivery channels.
Advanced Customization by Notification Type
Notifications can be customized by type and channel.
For example:
Receive schedule publications via email
Receive shift reminders via push notifications
This allows you to tailor notifications to your workflow.
Important Rules to Understand
Staff Control Their Own Notifications
Each staff member manages their own notification preferences
Managers cannot override individual staff settings
Automatic 24-Hour Override
If a shift starts within 24 hours, NetGym sends an immediate notification regardless of personal preferences.
This ensures urgent updates are not missed.
Device Settings Matter
For push notifications to appear:
Push notifications must be enabled inside NetGym
Push notifications must also be enabled in the device’s system settings
Set your push notifications to persistent instead of temporary so you don't miss any
If notifications seem missing, this is the most common cause.
What Shift Notifications Look Like
When a shift notification is sent via email (for example, when a schedule is published), you’ll receive a summary that includes:
The schedule date range
A snapshot of upcoming shifts
This allows you to review changes quickly without logging in.
Good to Know
Notifications reflect published schedules and approved changes
Draft shifts do not trigger notifications
Notification behavior is the same on web and mobile
Need Help?
If notifications don’t appear as expected:
Check your notification preferences
Confirm device-level push settings
Verify whether the 24-hour override applies
If issues persist, contact the NetGym team.
