Compliance flags shift and class assignments that put a team member over their daily hours, weekly hours, or consecutive-days-worked limits — before a manager approves them.
Compliance is a hint system, not an enforcement system — it flags risk, but a manager can always override it.
Permissions: Managing Compliance settings requires Account Owner or Business Admin access.
How to turn on and configure Compliance
Navigate to Settings → Account Info → Compliance.
If you want to provide managers visibility to compliance warnings, toggle on Warn management roles when a user exceeds overtime limits.
When on, Manager Plus roles (Regional Admin, Fitness Manager, Front Desk Manager) will see the warning.
Choose a rule mode
At the top of the page, choose a rule mode:
Rule mode | What it does |
Global rule | One rule applies to every location in the account. |
By state | For locations in the US: add one rule for all states, or override specific states. US states come pre-filled with defaults pulled from state labor law. |
By location | Set rules per specific studio location , group of locations, or all locations. |
Set compliance rules
Fill in a value for:
Hours/day
Hours/week
Consecutive days
If you've customized a pre-filled state value, a small refresh icon next to that field lets you revert it back to the state default.
Compliance rule logic:
The rules work as an OR statement, not an AND. Breaking any single rule — hours/day, hours/week, or consecutive days — triggers a warning. All three don't need to be broken at once.
Setting a field to 0 disables that specific check. For example, setting hours/day to 0 means the hours/day rule isn't evaluated at all.
Add additional rules
For By Location and By State overtime rules, you can add additional rules.
Click the "+Add location" rule or "+Add state rule" or "+Add All states rule" buttons.
Add team overrides
You can set team-level overrides on top of your global, state, or location rules.
Click >Team overrides → +Add team override to set a different rule for specific teams.
View the warning preview
At the bottom of the settings page, a live preview banner shows what a compliance warning would look like given your current settings — use it to confirm your configuration before you save.
Changes to Compliance settings don't save until you click Update Compliance. If you navigate away without saving, your changes are lost.
How to view compliance warnings across NetGym
Once Compliance is configured, warnings show up in four places:
Sub Request Board — a red exclamation warning shows the hours/day, hours/week, and consecutive days that triggered it.
Cover Request Board — the same warning experience.
Team Schedule (web and mobile) — filter or group by assignee; the hours shown reflect whichever filter you've selected (Shifts, Classes, or both).
Shift/class creation flow — when you assign someone to a new shift or class, or request a specific cover.
How to override a compliance warning
When you click Approve on a non-compliant sub or cover request, a confirmation modal appears showing the person's name and exactly which compliance rule(s) they'd be breaking.
To proceed, click Approve with Override. This is an explicit action.
Overrides are logged, so you can look back later and see who approved a compliance-breaking shift, and when.
Compliance doesn't stop anyone from working a shift that puts them out of compliance — it's a warning-and-override system, not a hard block.
How compliance hours are counted
Your weekly hours total is all scheduled classes and shifts for that person for the week being evaluated — plus whatever the sub or cover you're approving would add.
Consecutive days is a rolling count. It looks backward and forward from the day in question rather than resetting each calendar week, so someone can show up as being on day 15, 21, or 22 of a streak depending on their full schedule.
The hours shown on Team Schedule reflect whichever filter you have active (for example, "Shifts" only), but the compliance check always counts total hours across classes and shifts combined.
That means the filtered view can show a lower number than what actually triggered the warning.
How to view compliance overrides
Within the Compliance Overrides report, you'll see details like who approved the compliance override and what caused the instructor or staff to break a compliance rule.
To view the report, navigate to Insights → Team → Compliance Overrides.

No. It's a warning-and-override system, not a hard block. A manager still has to approve the shift for the warning to surface and be acted on.
