How to Set Availability as an Instructor with Another Role

Set your subbing and shift hours separately — even if you wear more than one hat.

Written by Helen Krebiehl

If you work in more than one capacity at your studio — for example, as both an instructor and a front desk staff member — NetGym has two separate availability types, and you can set each one independently.

Availability Types

NetGym has two availability types that serve different purposes:

Availability Type

Used For

Subbing Availability

Instructor sub requests

Permanent Availability

  • Shift scheduling (via your team's schedule) OR

  • Reference when scheduling classes on your studio's booking platform

Because these are separate, you can set different hours for each — which means your instructor schedule and your front desk schedule don't have to match.

In this case, it's a good idea to notify your manager that your Permanent Availability reflects your availability on the Shift/Team Schedule, not necessarily your instructing availability.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I set different hours for each availability type?

You can update your Subbing and Permanent availability independently. For example, you might be available to sub classes on weekends only, but available for front desk shifts Monday through Friday. Each setting is saved separately and won't affect the other.

Who can see my availability?

Your manager can view your availability when scheduling shifts and assigning sub requests. Setting accurate availability for each role helps them schedule you correctly across both responsibilities.
